“But Ben,” I bet several of you are going to e-mail me, “why didn't you just get straight to the decks?” The reason is twofold. This does not mean your deck is bad – it simply means that it is a good example of a particular problem I want to discuss. If I use your deck in today's column, please please please do not be offended. Today's column deals with the five pitfalls that people fall into when deckbuilding. There were a ton of great ideas out there, and I'll be doctoring several individual decks in the weeks to come. Everyone was busy submitting decks for me to play deck doctor with, that's for sure! I've received a ton of decklists, but instead of delving straight into doctoring one particular deck, I'm going to take a look at the Building end of this column.īefore I get started, I want to thank everyone for sending in their decks. The game is pretty fun so I reckon I'll expand my card pool.Welcomeback to Building on a Budget! I hope everyone had a great Memorial Day weekend. Although I have managed to put up a decent fight against my regular opponent's Tyrell deck (built using chapter packs), albeit not actually beat him. Yeah, "heroic" seems an appropriate word. Indeed it does, not sure how I missed that. At least I learned a lot from it when this game was new to me.Īnd lesson #1 was: read carefully every single word. It was included with the game and is also available on FF webpage to download. However I think this game is so well done, that you won't regret to extend your card pool.įirst of all I suggest you read Rules Reference (RR) handbook. If you don't want to invest in the game yet, my suggestion would be to use some card sleeves and make some proxies of known cards to try it out. You practically just pick a Banner agenda and then put in all available cards (faction+banner+neutral). After all you experienced it already - there are not enough cards to make any viable 60 cards deck. And/or some expansions to truly enjoy the game. It is good to have some fun and to learn to play but you would need at least 2 or 3 core sets. Trying to make a deck from 1 Core set is admirable and heroic, however also futile. neutral or its affiliation must match the affiliation of that player’s faction card. Unless instructed otherwise by a card ability, each card in a player’s deck and plot deck must be.A player’s draw deck can only contain up to 3 copies (by title) of any given card. There is no upper limit on a player’s draw deck size.A player’s draw deck must contain a minimum of 60 cards. No more than 1 copy of each of the other plot cards may be in the plot deck. Up to one of the chosen plot cards may be duplicated once (by title) within the plot deck. A player’s plot deck must contain exactly 7 cards.A player may choose 1 agenda card, or may choose to not use an agenda.A player must choose exactly 1 faction card.To build a custom deck for sanctioned tournament play: This is also known as the “ draw deck.”Īny rule or ability that refers to a plot deck uses the term “ plot deck.” When the word “deck” appears by itself in rules or in card text, it refers to the deck that contains a player’s attachment, character, event, and location cards. Rules specify very specifically, remember the rule#1. I think I'll aim for The Watcher On The Wall expansion next. Let me know what you think of the deck so far and if you have any suggestions on what cards to use to fill it out, that would also be appreciated. I'll get more cards when I am able but its a shame that there isn't more room for experimentation in the core set. There doesn't seem to be enough cards in the core set to make a decent deck of 60 "deck" cards a lot of the extras you need to pad it out are somewhat trash for the overall strategy of the deck. You'll notice the cards are exclusively core set cards, this is because I only have the core set. I'll list them below if you fancy a look. Plus my 7 plot cards and 50 cards in the core "deck" which, excluding the faction card, totals 60. I have made a deck with Night's Watch faction card and the Banner of the Lion agenda. I assumed it doesn't count the faction card so it makes sense that plots and agendas are excluded as well. Just a quick question about deck limits: does the deck minimum include plot and agenda cards or is it just the "deck" cards?
